So, I was listening to the song “I Am Not My Hair” by India Arie . And you know I was jamming, singing the lyrics…..but then I began to think. Is it true? I am not my hair? I mean I have to admit that in my past I was my hair. My hair was a reflection of my mood. If it was messy, it meant I was feeling lazy that day or didn’t care about anything that day. If it was done in an extravagant style, it meant I was feeling a little jazzy ;-) If it was just straight down, I was probably feeling reserved or had a neutral mood. Women and men for that matter, let me ask if you agree. The minute after you step out of the hair salon or barbershop, you feel fresh and you walk away feeling good, unless of course, you were not pleased with the results of your hair. So once again, I ask myself is it true? I am not my hair? I’ll say this, my hair is not all that I am. But my hair is a reflection of part of me. So, I’ll leave by saying I AM my hair and much more....... More details to come

5th Day Twist Out and Scarves
Ok, so this isn't what I planned on posting about for this week, but I was kinda excited so I figured I would just post twice. So this is the 5th day since I did my twist out, and my hair still looks good! I'm so shocked. Normally I would have to retwist by now, but I haven't, I just have been sleeping with a satin cap at night. I will let you know what I did this time, since it was a little different. First off, I did a co-wash, but I did not get out of the shower right after. I decided to twist my hair while in the shower. I put leave in conditioner on my hair, and I used setting lotion. This is my first time using setting lotion. I used Silky Milk, it smells amazing. So after I twisted, I just went to bed and let it air dry (I hate sitting under the dryer :-)) In the morning I added some oil to my scalp, then untwisted my hair, and finger combed. Each morning I just rub some oil in my hands and rub and finger comb my hair.
Something else I wanted to discuss was Scarves....I love them! In 2007, I had the pleasure of making a trip to Egypt and bought some awesome scarves. So for the ladies who are transitioning this is something to consider. Even if you aren't transitioning, scarves are fashionable in my opinion. If you have questions about how to tie them, let me know......More details to come

Twist Out Fro
I love the twist out! I think I might love it more than just the co wash and go, although it is more time consuming. So when I do a twist out, I do one of two things. Either I twist while wet, which makes things a lot easier, and last time I didn’t even need to use a roller on my ends. If I have been wearing the regular fro for a while, I will section my hair and apply hair mayonnaise to my hair then twist. After drying (I usually go to bed like this) I untwist and finger comb my hair. The curls are very defined and it comes out looking lovely. I’ve noticed that I am a headband girl. For some reason all of my styles, well most of them anyway, look 100 times better after I put a headband on. When I had a relaxer, I used to get, what was called sister curls. That’s when you twist your hair back in about 8 or 9 cornrows while wet, and then once dry you take them out. I haven’t tried this yet, but I plan to. I wonder what the difference in looks would be cornrows vs. plaits. Well, when I try it I will post the comparison pictures. For now here are some pictures of my normal twist out……More details to come

Bad Hair Day
I am having such a "bad" hair day today. lol. I flat ironed my hair a little before the new year, but I've been working out this past week. Well, due to "sweating it out"........LITERALLY.....I woke up with my hair doing its own thing. If you want to know what it looks like right now, go to my other post and look up the SEMI BC....lol, yea, it's looking like that. I'm not sure what I'm going to do to it just yet, maybe a twist out. I do know I'm about to oil my scalp with a shea butter, coconut oil, and olive oil mixture. My scalp is dying for some moisture! My Bengals play in the playoffs tomorrow, so I have to look right while I'm cheering them on. Who Dey! More details to come........

Co-Wash
So, I took out my micros in September of 09. I decided I was ready to cut that last inch of relaxed hair on the ends. CHOP CHOP……Then I thought hey, I’ve watched so many videos talking about a co-wash. So why not give that a try. For those of you who don’t know what a co-wash is, don’t worry I had no clue either. It’s when you wash your hair using conditioner, instead of shampoo. I’ve heard that conditioner has less harsh chemicals than shampoo. So there I was, cutting off more hair, but I didn’t cry this time :-) I washed it with the conditioner (Redken), then rinsed it out, and shook my head. Yes, I mean shake shake shake. It causes your coils to bounce in place. For those with short tresses, you are supposed to flip your head upside down and shake. Good technique I learned on good ol youtube. I sprayed some conditioner on it (Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla and Nexxus Humectress Leave in Conditioner), and then used the Kinky Curly Custard. I shook my head again…..Shake shake shake. It turned out amazing. I loved it! Pics at the bottom......More details to come

New Years
So, last night I went to a house party. Had a lot of fun. Reminded me of being a teenager. We made up dances to songs, cracked jokes, and just laughed all night long. The Moscato, Stella Rosa, and Ciroc that was flowing reminded me that I was past my teenage years. :-) Before I went out, I decided I wanted to do something different with my hair. Didn't feel like rocking the straight back, nor the curly fro. I did know that I would probably "Sweat It Out," so I just pinned up the sides, and flipped the back. Not sure if you can tell in the pic, but more than one person said it was cute..... So, what do you guys plan to do with this new year? I plan on being inspired and inspiring. More details to come........
